Ik Bagal Mein Chand (Piyush Mishra, Gangs Of Wasseypur)

Movie/Album:
Music By: स्नेहा खन्वाल्कर
Lyrics By: पियूष मिश्रा
Performed By: पियूष मिश्रा

  4. This is supposed to be a lullaby for poor children. Usually we take children into fantasyland in a lullaby, but putting something as basic as 'Roti'init comes as a slap of reality.. And reveals the true nature of this song. The whole song then proceeds to reveal the unnerving contrast between fantasy and reality, and yet Piyushji manages to face reality with courage and carelessness rather than juat crying about it.

And all this using just among those usual few thousand words used in day to day language. No heavy urdu words, no philosophical heaviness felt.. And yet very very deep.
    Amazing.

  5. This song starts as a lullaby but slaps you at word 'roti' with dark reality that for poor children even roti is like moon. Usually we take children in a fantasy land in a lullaby but Mishraji creates an unnnerving contrast of fantasy with grim reality to show how a huge roti to sleep on can be the most fantastic thing for poor and hungry children.

All this using only among those few thousand daytoday words. No heavy urdu words, no philosophical heaviness and yet profoundly deep.

    Unsettling and amazing.
