Gulon Mein Rang Bhare (Mehdi Hassan, Ghazal)

Music By: मेहदी हसन
Performed By: मेहदी हसन

    3. Jail/qafas is sad. Friends please ask the sabah/mausam to do something.
I am waiting to hear the mention of my yaar/beloved(in this context freedom for his country (from dictatorship) with the blessings of God.
Please come, my beloved because with you comes spring and flowers and different colours (of life)

  8. This ghazal authored by one of the Urdu greats janaab Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Faiz Ahmad Faiz MBE NI (13 February 1911 – 20 November 1984) was a Pakistani poet, and author in Urdu and Punjabi language. He was one of the most celebrated writers of the Urdu language in Pakistan. Faiz was an avowed Marxist, and he received the Lenin Peace Prize by the Soviet Union in 1962.

This ghazal has been composed by Mehdi Hassan saheb
in raag Baageshwari (a raaga of spring/bahaar).

The theme of this ghazal is as follows:

Like the new breeze of spring
    that grants blossoms their hue,
come forth love, grant the garden
leave to go about its business.

    This birdcage is forlorn.
Call upon the gentle wind, friends
to petition the Lord, if it will,
    to speak of my beloved.

Let the dawn, for once, arrive
through the archway of your lips.
Let the dusk spread its perfume
    like musk from your tresses.

    This impoverished heart
    is privileged to suffer
    and, hearing your name,
    to swell, leaving comfort behind.

    What is done is done
    but, sundering night,
    know that your passing
    is adorned with our tears.

    So insatiable is my vehemence
to be in your presence, my love,
I bunch up my shirt in a knot
and rip its collar to shreds.

    No destination along the way
    has any appeal for Faiz,
a step away from his beloved’s street
is a giant leap to the gallows pole.

    Thanks
